Australia's Olympic athletes farewell Pyeongchang

25 February 2018 2:27:00 pm AEDT

Australia's winter team farewell Pyeongchang
Another Winter Olympics has come and gone and what an emotional rollercoaster it was for us Aussies.

The highlights were 3 Olympic medals and a total of 12 top ten finishes.

3 torn ACL's, a broken collar bone and a dislocated elbow were reminders of how extreme winter sports are. As Lydia would say "If you want a controlled environment take up swimming".

Belle Brockhoff 11th in the world

Our girl Belle Brockhoff may have missed a medal chance after she crashed out in the semi-finals of the women’s snowboard cross but what she did in the small final was nothing less than golden.

We could see she was close to tears as she waited to begin the small final.

Her self belief and phenomenal mental strength carried her through to the end of the course, coming in at 5th and taking out 11th spot overall.

Snowboard Cross AussiesWhat an exciting day of competition today.

In the Snowboard Cross, the Aussies started the day really strong with Cam Bolton, Alex Chumpy Pullin and Adam Lambert qualifying directly through from the first seeding round.

The Women's aerials was another tale of disappointment and triumph that left us gasping.

Laura Peel, Dual Olympian Aerialist“Aerial Skiing is an extreme sport. It takes 3 seconds, you’re skiing at 60km/h, you’re 10m high in the air but when you come off that jump and you hit that perfect take off, it's like time freezes.”

And its in that moment that soon to be two time Olympian Laura Peel finds both her calm and her fire.

We are definitely looking forward to seeing Laura and her teammates, Lydia and Dani fly high in the women’s qualifications tonight at 10pm AEDT at Phoenix Snow Park.

To tide you over, here is a recent interview with Laura at XTM house.
