Hailing from the Victorian High Country town of Mansfield, where his parents run a ski and board shop, Chumpy was added to the list of OWI scholarship athletes in 2007 following his promising World Cup debut in the 2006/07 World Cup season. Chumpy began skiing with his parents (who own and run a ski shop in Mansfield) at the age of three and took up snowboarding at age eight. He began competing in his first year of snowboarding and dominated all snowboarding disciplines in his age division during his school years. Chumpy ended the 2010 World Cup year as the world’s number two snowboard cross rider, after a brilliant end to his season. Pullin collected his first World Cup gold medal in the penultimate event of the season in Valmalenco, Italy, then followed that with a silver in the Cup final in La Molina, Spain. In 2011 he has just won the snowboard cross event to become Australia's first world champion in the sport.
